“Many have the Pride of Life.”
1 John 2:16 (LSB) For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.
So the pride of life wants what it wants and it boasts of itself. “Retire at ___?, big house with a two car garage, live by the beach, want, want, want; me, me, me. The pride of life screams for others to look upon it and how wonderful and grandiose this pride is. How many people will you hear say they are self-made and glorify themselves?
He tells us to be blessed with what we have believing He’ll provide, and my experience is Yahweh always provides. I’ve been in some tough spots and I cried out. He heard my cries and I have always received of His timely sustenance.
Also, YHWH tested them in the wilderness and they constantly tried Him. He gave them a portion of bread yet they always wanted more. The pride of life can never be satisfied, it only craves more.
Furthermore, there is the parable in the New Testament, where a man was very wealthy and had a very plentiful harvest:
Luke 12:16-21 (LSB) And He (Y’shua) told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man was very productive. 17 “And he began reasoning to himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?’ 18 “Then he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19 ‘And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink and be merry.”’ 20“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you prepared?’21 “So is the one who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”
But what does YHWH want from us, what is He stirring up in you, if indeed He, The Helper, is within you?
Luke 9:24 (TS2009)
24 “For whoever wishes to save his life shall lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake shall save it.
What matters to this world is of the world, what matters to the Almighty is what what should matter to us.. It’s true, men can bring affliction and take things from you, but they can never take your belief. Y’shua Messiah will be intimate with His sheep and give us the desires of our hearts, when and only when, our purposes are aligned with His Kingdom. So what truly matters? Being Holy, sharing our belief in our daily walk, teaching our children to walk with the Master. Our children are the gifts from YAH and our most important disciples!
We are fatally human at times and without our medicine (His Word) we focus on what’s right in front of us; ie. our next meal, bills, making money to get ourselves and children what they need. These are natural but when we have an intimate relationship with The Father thru the Son we began to say,” Use me Father, please give me a calling and make me a worker in Your kingdom!” Let us remember, many are called but few are chosen. Let us learn from our ancient ancestors and not make the same mistakes. The writer of Hebrews informs us that the Torah (The Law) is for our edification and our example to learn from.
When we “lose our life” and focus ourselves on being filled with His Spirit is when it will be saved for His sake. Then and only then can we be workers in His kingdom bringing the Good News of Redemption to all nations.
